Rachel Hall Illustration
Rachel is an illustrator and designer based in the Midlands with a long-standing love of making and creating.
She began drawing and painting as a teenager and carried that interest through her later education, while studying photography at UWE Bristol. While photography shaped her understanding of composition and colour, illustration was always the creative path she felt most connected to and continued to develop alongside her studies.
After graduating and after much encouragement from friends and family, Rachel started her illustration business in 2017. She began by selling hand-printed screen prints at local markets, learning as she went and gradually refining her style.
Over the years her work has evolved, becoming more colourful and playful, while staying true to her original aim: to create work that lifts the mood, whether that’s through calming landscapes, reassuring messages or humorous phrases.
Her illustrations are inspired by a mix of the natural world, wildlife, floral forms and good dose of silliness. She prides herself on an ability to not take life too seriously! Rachel’s style often combines expressive typography with bright colour and simple, thoughtful details.
Words and phrases often sit at the centre of her work, chosen to connect with people in an honest and approachable way. The result is artwork that feels friendly, relatable and stylish.
All of Rachel’s designs are hand drawn on her iPad and produced from her home studio. She’s hands-on throughout the process and is mindful about how her work is packaged, using recyclable and biodegradable materials wherever possible.
Her most popular pieces include her humorous greeting cards and typographical prints, which are often bought as gifts or to brighten everyday spaces.
Alongside running her business, Rachel is a new mum and spends much of her time balancing work with family life. When she gets the chance, she enjoys reading and going to live music gigs. These interests, along with everyday experiences, continue to influence her creative work.
Rachel’s illustrations are stocked by independent shops across the UK and she regularly sells her work at markets around the Midlands, particularly in Birmingham and Leicester. She is always open to working with new stockists and taking on private commissions or design projects.
