The Deaths-Head Hawk-Moth ... Omen of Death

The Deaths-Head Hawk-Moth has had a few cultural moments, appearing in many literary works by Edgar Allen Poe and its most famous being appearing on the iconic 1991 poster for Silence of the Lambs film. 

Thanks to its eerie skull-like markings, these moths have been seen as being a bad omen. Their scientific name is also linked to the river of pain in Greek mythology: Acherontia.​
